Joshua Cheptegei Wednesday set a new 10,000 metres world record in Valencia, Spain.
Cheptegei clocked 26 minutes and 11.02 seconds to shave off six seconds from the previous record held by Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele.
The Ugandan now holds the world records for 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres.
Earlier, Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey set a new women’s 5,000m world record of 14 minutes 6.62 seconds.
The 22-year-old lowered the previous mark of 14:11.15 held by her compatriot Tirunesh Dibaba since 2008 by over four seconds.
